Veterans spent a day at sea thanks to the Veterans Village of San Diego. Just off the coast, homeless veterans met up at the Point Loma Fishing Dock for a day of adventure.
This is the first annual Veterans Fishing Day hosted by Veterans Village of San Diego and Point Loma’s Rotary Club.
Among the many participants is Greg Kramer who loved getting to cast his fishing line out to sea. He says that it is a “fun event that we’d been looking forward to for a long time.”
Before the veterans departed on one of San Diego’s premiere fishing boats the Daily Double, they were honored by singers dressed in WWII dresses on the dock.
For some fishing is a part of their lives already, while others got to experience the joy for the first time. It is all thanks to the hard work and diligent efforts made by community members Alan Brown and Carter Shuffler who made the event possible. After experiencing the First Annual Veterans Fishing Day participants are eager to join in on the fun next year!
