In the Eastern Sierra, along Highway-395, lies a jewel known as Mammoth Lakes. The town occupies just four square miles, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in substance.
The mountain paradise is home to world-class resorts, fine dining, shopping and year-round recreational activities. There is also a welcome center, with interpretive geological and historical exhibits.
Mammoth Lakes has a rich history, including how it got its name. Our David Wylie explains in the story below, airing statewide this week on California Life!
