Whether or not you like seafood, there is no denying it is an important component of a healthy diet.
The USDA and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently released new dietary guidelines, recommending that all Americans eat at least 2 to 3 seafood meals a week, to improve heart and brain function. Eating seafood can also help you maintain a healthier weight.
Nationally-renowned nutritionist Elizabeth Ward told California Life seafood contains nutrients that most people don’t enough of, like Omega 3 fats, Vitamins D and B12 and iron.
Ward says it’s easy to add seafood to things you’re already eating, especially in California, where fresh seafood is often readily available. Check out our story below for her tips, and visit www.getrealaboutseafood.com for recipes and more on the benefits of adding seafood to your diet, especially if you’re pregnant or nursing.
