Highlights from 7-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson’s bike tour through Detroit

NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson made a pit stop in Detroit to preview the Pure Michigan 400 race at Michigan International Speedway on August 13th.

While in the city, Johnson participated in a bike tour of the city of Detroit led by Slow Roll. After touring Corktown, Downtown and the Detroit Riverfront, he stopped to talk with California Life.

“To be on a bike, that’s one thing I love about it, it’s social at an event like this where I don’t have race pressure and I can sit and talk to people about whatever,” the 41-year-old NASCAR driver said. “It’s nice to have a calm environment to hang out in.”

Johnson also talked about how the city has transformed into a beautiful safe area to sightsee and experience. From his favorite ice cream shop to the miles of scenic biking routes, Johnson described Detroit as America’s “come back city.”

When discussing the Pure Michigan 400, Johnson stated, “I think fans can expect something a little extra every time. We’re going to continue to add little twists and turns as we go. I’m really excited to try to create a week’s worth of entertainment throughout the whole time.”
