A pair of stags, which can weigh more than 1,000 lbs each, locked antlers while sparring at the Prairie Creek campground near Orick. Who was worst for the wear? A park sign that read: “Danger: Wild Elk,” which was no match for the rambunctious elk.
Orick is a census-designated place situated on the banks of the Redwood Creek in Humboldt County, California. It is located 43 miles north of Eureka, at an elevation of 26 feet. The population was 357 at the 2010 census. Rare minerals orickite and coyoteite were discovered at Coyote Peak near Orick.
