The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday night, and the jackpot has now jumped to a record $1.4 billion!
Powerball is a multistate game played in 44 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The California Lottery reports that California is leading the way in sales. In fact, $9 million worth of tickets have been sold today, in California alone!
If someone wins Wednesday’s drawing, they’ll have the option of taking a lump sum amount of $868 million, or receiving the entire $1.4 billion in 30 annual installments. The payments range from $21 million up front, to a staggering $86.7 million in final year #30!
And if that winning ticket is sold in California, the retailer who sells it will receive a $1 million retailer bonus check.
The last time the Powerball jackpot was won in California was back on August 1, 2015.
