After more than 151 years of silence, the legendary Château de Sancerre has been reborn. Now open as Les Hauts de Sancerre, this newly transformed 5-star hotel is the first of its kind in the iconic French wine town of Sancerre—offering a bold new destination where history, design, and terroir converge.

Opened on July 1st, 2025, the hotel is the passion project of David Chicard and Audrey Dumont, who set out to breathe new life into the château while creating a guest experience that is both immersive and deeply rooted in the culture of the Loire Valley.

Just 2.5 hours from Paris, and perched high above the vineyards of Sancerre, the château blends its 19th-century grandeur with contemporary elegance, guided by the artistic direction of Belgian designer Jérôme Lescrenier.

What Awaits Guests at Les Hauts de Sancerre:

Eight Elegantly Renovated Suites: A luxurious, intimate stay in a landmark setting.

La Table d’Arnaud: A pop-up gourmet restaurant led by Top Chef alum Arnaud Munster, offering a five-course tasting menu (€90) that celebrates the region’s seasonal ingredients.

A Wine Lover’s Haven: The château’s original cellar has been transformed into a curated wine library, showcasing the best of Sancerre’s celebrated appellation.

Artfully Curated Spaces: An evolving art program by Stanislas de Poucques begins with works by Emma Terweuwe and Roan van Oort, bringing contemporary perspectives into the historic walls.

Wellness by La Chênaie: A serene treatment room offers natural skincare rituals from the luxury botanical brand.

Expansive Grounds: Explore several hectares of parkland and visit the storied Tour des Fiefs, offering sweeping views of the Loire.

Nightly rates range from $275 to $385, placing Les Hauts de Sancerre among France’s most exclusive countryside retreats.

Coming in 2026:

The story continues next year, with an expansion to 16 rooms, a permanent restaurant, a permaculture garden, and a landscaped pool, solidifying Les Hauts de Sancerre as a cultural and culinary haven in the heart of the Loire.

Whether you’re a lover of wine, art, or simply the quiet elegance of the French countryside, Les Hauts de Sancerre is a destination that promises to inspire- and indulge.
