Bledsoe Wine Estates, which owns the Doubleback, Bledsoe Family Winery, and Bledsoe-McDaniels wineries in the Walla Walla Valley, has nearly doubled the size of its vineyard property in the SeVein Vineyards development with the purchase of approximately 40 acres of unplanted land.
The new estate vineyard property is situated at 1,200-1,400 feet of elevation, features wind-blown glacial loess over fractured basalt, and is located immediately adjacent to the winery’s 50-acre McQueen Vineyard, which was the first vineyard planted in the SeVein Vineyards on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. The McQueen Vineyard is currently planted with 21 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Syrah.
“The opportunity to acquire what amounts to a 40-acre blank canvas that is almost contiguous to our original McQueen Estate Vineyard, in the heart of the SeVein Vineyards, was one that fit perfectly with our standards and we couldn’t pass up,” said Josh McDaniels, CEO & Director of Winemaking for Bledsoe Wine Estates. “This gives us the room we need to accommodate growth, but also to expand our growing presence in one of the best producing vineyard blocks in the Walla Walla Valley.”
While no timeline has been set for planting the yet-to-be-named property, it becomes the fifth Bledsoe Wine Estates vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley, including the McQueen, Bob Healy, Flying B, and Lefore vineyards. Combined, these vineyards encompass 194 acres, of which approximately 60 acres are currently planted.
“When Maura and I first walked the McQueen Vineyard property back in 2007, we quickly realized that the immediate and long-term future of Doubleback was right underneath our feet,” said Bledsoe Wine Estates proprietor Drew Bledsoe. “Fast forward 13 years, and it’s exciting to think about what the future holds not only for the untapped potential of this new vineyard, but for Bledsoe Wine Estates.”
About Bledsoe Wine Estates:
Founded in 2007, Bledsoe Wine Estates exists to celebrate the pursuit of an American success story. After retiring from the NFL, football superstar Drew Bledsoe felt a pull back to his small, Pacific-Northwest hometown where he found a new passion in applying his winning work ethic into a love of land and wine. Together, with his wife Maura, a new dream was drafted. It was by no accident that Drew selected renowned CEO & Director of Winemaking, Josh McDaniels, someone not only with the unwavering drive and talent to make this dream happen, but someone who also was born and raised in the same hometown of Walla Walla, Washington.
The individual Bledsoe Wine Estates projects – Doubleback, Bledsoe|McDaniels, and Bledsoe Family Winery – all play important parts in this new American dream and offer its customers the perfect glass of wine no matter where they are in their own journey to glory.
