With side hustle opportunities down because of the pandemic, influencers and those out of work now have a new option to create more cash flow.
The new business app, Drum, connects businesses with Drummers (influencers) to share offers and products for payment. Drummers can sign on whenever they want, share businesses and when their followers purchase from the business, the Drummer gets a commission.
This is the perfect side hustle or gig for online influencers that helps small businesses promote their products for a minimal cost. Small businesses need scalable, manageable ways to spur person-to-person referrals from their customer base and community. Individuals can supplement income when businesses choose to offer commissions.
Businesses join the platform and can publish offers that fit their business model and appeal to their customer base (for example, restaurants could publish an offer for 10% off takeout orders, or a dry cleaner could publish an offer for a $100 in services sold for $90 new customers willing to purchase in advance).
Drummers – everyday people who refer, promote, and talk about these businesses – can share those offers digitally. The app can track when an online purchase occurs at the business and pay commission to the Drummer.
Businesses determine how much they are able and willing to pay for a redeemed offer, so it will vary — Drum expects a home contractor may be willing to pay a different commission amount than a restaurant, for example. The aspiration was to build a solution that was as flexible as possible for businesses of all sizes and types. The app has also made it possible for businesses impacted by the forced closure to post offers without commissions so their customers can share – even without compensation – should they choose to do so.
Drummers can share offers either in-person (once the quarantine is over) via a scannable QR code on their phone, or digitally via email, messenger apps (SMS, Messenger, WhatsApp), or social sharing. The app will track traffic through any of those methods and when a conversion occurs, the Drummer will earn a commission.
