MJ IS MOONWALKING BACK TO SAN DIEGO

✨ San Diego Gets Another Chance to See MJ

Some musicals are emotional. Some are visually impressive. And then there’s MJ—the kind of show that makes people leave the theater wanting to rewatch old music videos the second they get home.

The Tony Award-winning musical is officially returning to San Diego Civic Theatre from May 5–10, 2026, after becoming one of Broadway’s biggest crowd-pleasers.

🕺 It’s Not a Typical Biographical Musical

Instead of trying to cover an entire life story, MJ focuses on the creation of the 1992 Dangerous World Tour. That choice actually works in the show’s favor—it keeps the pacing fast and lets the audience experience the pressure, perfectionism, and creativity behind the performances that made Michael Jackson such a global phenomenon.

It feels less like reading a timeline and more like stepping into the rehearsal room.

🎶 The Music Does Most of the Talking

The second the first few notes hit, the audience is already in. The show pulls from some of Michael Jackson’s most recognizable songs, but the performances are staged in a way that feels theatrical instead of karaoke nostalgia.

And honestly, the choreography is probably what people talk about most afterward. The movement is so sharp and nonstop that half the fun is just watching how physically intense the whole production is.

🎭 Big Production Energy

This is one of those productions that fully commits to spectacle. The lighting, costumes, projections, sound—it’s all designed to feel massive without losing the personal side of the story!

Basically, even people who “don’t usually like musicals” tend to get pulled into this one.

🎟️ Planning Ahead

Tickets are already on sale now through Broadway San Diego.

🌟 Final Thoughts

What makes MJ work isn’t just the music. It’s the energy. The show moves fast, sounds huge, and somehow still feels personal underneath all the spectacle.

It’s less sit-back-and-watch theater… more full-body experience.
