Tequila, the agave-based distilled spirit from Mexico, is one of the most widely consumed alcoholic beverages in the U.S; with California coming in first in terms of tequila consumption.
Juan “Mr. Tequila” Bonilla had garnered that nickname for his love of tequila as well as becoming an expert on the business and culture behind the industry, all the while exporting and consulting for the past 10 years.
Making this alcoholic spirit is a long process, the production of tequila is reliant on centuries-old techniques where agave must grow an average of 6 to 10 years before they’re ready to harvest.
With the Viva Tequila Festival, Bonilla is dedicated to teaching the artistry and history of tequila. The festival also highlights the food, drinks, and cultures coming from Mexico in the form of a tour through the Tequila Trail. The Trail includes dishes from Mexican folklore and several tastings of its high-spirited tequilas produced in the area.
