Pacific Park Honors Dolly Parton With Special Pink Ferris Wheel Tribute
Pacific Park’s 90-Foot-Tall Ferris Wheel To Illuminate With Pink Hearts, Stars and Spirals
Celebrating the Life and Legacy of the Legendary Singer, Songwriter and Humanitarian
Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will honor legendary singer, songwriter and humanitarian Dolly Parton tonight with a special pink lighting program on its world-famous 90-foot-tall Pacific Wheel, joining landmarks and communities across the country in celebrating the life and extraordinary legacy of the beloved American icon.
The Pacific Wheel will illuminate the Southern California coastline with a custom tribute featuring pink hearts, pink stars and a sweeping pink spiral that covers the entire Ferris wheel. The Santa Monica Pier tribute joins a national outpouring of remembrance that includes New York City’s Empire State Building sparkling in pink, while fans are gathering at Parton’s statue in her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee, the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to remember an entertainer and humanitarian whose music, generosity and joyful spirit touched generations around the world.
The Pacific Wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel featuring 174,000 LED lights that are mounted on the Ferris wheel’s 40 spokes and two hubs. The Ferris wheel’s lighting system features 16.7 million color value combinations while the programming and display software presents imaging up to 24 frames per second to display dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 81 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel’s traditional incandescent bulbs.
The Ferris wheel soars nine stories high and lifts riders more than 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean to offer extraordinary views of the Southern California coastline from its location on the internationally popular Santa Monica Pier.
