This week, our very own Elise Thuresson had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Thomas Grace. Dr. Grace is a family physician, Medical Director of the Blanchard Valley Diabetes Center, and the head of Clinical Advocacy and Outcomes at Dexcom. Elise and Dr. Grace talked about National Glucose Awareness week and the importance of it.
According to Dr. Grace, 1/3 of the United States population has a disease of managing glucose, yet many people are not aware of the importance of managing it. National Glucose Awareness Week sheds to light the education of glucose’s importance, and many ways to manage glucose.
A new website, www.getglucoseaware.com, is a one-stop-shop for all of your glucose questions, facts, and even ways to track glucose.
Dr. Grace also introduces us to Stelo, an over-the-counter glucose biosensor, is engineered for those with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. It is a sensor that you can wear on the back of your arm for up to 15 days that sends glucose readings and levels to your smartphone. It can help connect the dots between our diet, physical activities, and glucose levels.
