Big Bear Spotlight

Although Big Bear Lake is a relatively small town tucked away in the San Bernardino National Forest, it’s a nationally recognized mountain resort community.  And for us lucky Southern Californians it’s just a car ride away.

Big Bear has so much to offer that it’s hard to know where to start your trip.  Luckily, the Resort Association has a visitor center designed to build you a dream vacation.

If you are interested in booking you can visit the the visitors center. After you have your perfect trip planned out, take a stroll up the road through the village.  Even if you’ve never been you’ll feel at home right away.  In part because you meet your very own welcoming party.

After getting a nice big bear hug to set you on your way, something unexpected will probably catch your eye.

Most people don’t think of Big Bear as a home to nationally recognized artists, but a you’ll see as soon as you step into the Gallery of the American Landscape, those people are wrong.

One of their photographers, Timothy Wolcott, Landscape Photographer, travels the country to take the perfect shots. He is very particular about the locations he photographs. He has been working on the Simplicity Collection for over 20 years.

Leaving the gallery of the American Landscape, perhaps with one or two of Tim’s photographs in tow, you’ll probably by surprised to find an equally breathtaking art gallery right across the street.

The art of Serenity Place Gallery showcases the diversity in Big Bear, with most of the featured artists being Big Bear residents.

One of the things that will strike you about the gallery is the variety.

Art isn’t he only thing you can find in Serenity Place.  They carry everything from art books for adults and children, games, stationery and jewelry made by local artisans.

The galleries are just an example of the diversity you can find in Big Bear Village.  The eclectic shopping is one of the many ways to spend your days.  It’s easy to see what the locals love about this alpine town.

It’s well worth the drive.  Come in the winter for fun in the snow, or in the summer to escape the heat, Big Bear lake is an destination for all seasons.
