Cancer Breakthrough Treatment Options for Rare Cancer of the Blood

Almost everyone can say that they have been impacted from cancer in some way, whether it is themselves or a loved one.

There is one type of blood cancer that effects thousands every year in the U.S. that is rarely discussed. Hodgkin Lymphoma is a rare cancer that had not experienced any treatment development in over 40 years, until recently.

Hematologist and Oncologist at City of Hope Dr. Robert Chen explains how this cancer which begins in the body’s immune system, attacking white blood cells, is a cancer of the lymph nodes.

The risk factors of the disease which 8,500 people were diagnosed in 2018 and 1,050 died from are still unclear. Among these cases about 30% of people were underwent chemotherapy experienced a decline post treatment.

However, there has been a medical breakthrough in regard to Hodgkin Lymphoma treatment with ADCETRIS (brentuximab vedotin). This new treatment option attacks only unhealthy blood cells so that patients are given a fighting chance.
