Summertime is fully upon us, and that means that some of the best surfers in the world are making their way down to Huntington Beach.
And perhaps no other man has been able to capture the essence of surfing like Kelly Slater – the world renowned 11-time world champion and possibly one of the best to ever ride a wave.
That’s why Main Street in Huntington Beach was shut down for Kelly Slater to be handed the key to the city.
“You will always be our hero, the cities door will always be open to you, and you will always be loved, cherished and welcomed in Huntington Beach,” said Joe Carchio, former Mayor of Huntington Beach.
And even though the surfing legend was born on the east coast, he considers Huntington his home away from home.
