The 2017 Daytona 500 is now in the review mirror, and with all the drama you probably didn’t even realize you got a sneak peek at the future of driving during the race.
This year’s race was complete with 35 of the 40 cars involved in crashes, 37 lead changes and a dramatic final stretch finish. Kurt Busch scored his first ever Daytona victory, and his brother, Kyle, helped usher in another “first”.
Kyle’s race car was designed side by side with Camry’s production car. Fans at Daytona were able to get a glimpse of the new vehicle well before it will be in showrooms this Fall.
Another change for the 2017 race was the introduction of a controversial new scorecard. Kyle explains to California Life that the new changes break the races into segments. He believes this change will keep the excitement up and give drivers the opportunity to use different strategies to receive the points awarded.
